After I got married my wife made me aware of how much the media helps reinforce impossible standards when it comes to physical appeal. I say impossible but what I really mean is false (as the video below demonstrates). Now that I have two daughters I carry a growing concern over what they'll be subjected to and how much they'll try to relate to it. I welcome them to learn for themselves, but I hope we do our part to inform them that if they strive too hard to be as beautiful as the media says they have to be then they will never truly be happy with their appearance. For some reason I'm not as concerned for my son. I think every guy would liked to pack on about 100lbs of rippling mad muscle but I'm hoping he'll come to the same conclusion I did a long time ago: You're doomed to forever be a tall, skinny nerd. Since then I've been quite satisfied with my appearance.

that video was pretty cool. i think i'm screwed with 3 daughters.
A fear I think all us Dad's are struggling with... good post!
I love this video and Dove's promotional campaign. I used this exact video in my classes to the 5th and 6th grade girls I taught for the Boys and Girls last year. I hope every girl can value themselves for who they are and not try to live up to someone else's expectations. I feel very strongly about this subject.
