We got wind that Applebees would give military members a free meal on Veteran's day so we all went to eat there. We discovered that not only was my meal not free but only 50% off, and it only applied to about five items located on a 'special' menu. It wasn't a huge deal, but the stuff on the special menu was pretty lame. What bugged the crap out of me was there was an older couple who sat in the booth next to us and the guy was under the same impression I was, that this would be a free meal. The guy was old enough to have easily served in the Korean or Vietnam Wars and all they could give this guy was 50% off a crappy meal...are you kidding me? Is this how much Applebees really appreciates our veterans- I'm referring mostly to the old guy? I'm not boycotting Applebees by any means, mostly cuz I like their bruschetta burger too much, but consider the following:
A soldier loses his arm and half his face in Afghanistan and the patriots at Applebees give him a sloppy nasty quesadilla burger and only charge him half price. Say what!
Offer nothing, I can understand that cuz everyone gets treated equally. Offer beans and you may as well kick veterans everywhere in the crotch. That's all I'm sayin'.
I really am a very grateful person, but am I really that far off base? What do you think?
We shoulda just gone to Subway. ;)

That is pretty lame. Though I have to ask: What gave you the impression that the meal was free? Was it an official advertisement, or just kind of like a word of mouth kind of thing? If it's the former, then Applebee's deserves some artillery fire. If the later, then it's just bad luck.
Subway would have been a lot cheaper and probably healthier for you.;) I have to agree that false advertisement is wrong and ticks me off. Veterans deserve more respect. Maybe Applebees is really hurting with the economy and all right now.
If they advertised a free meal, then shame on Applebees. If you are just looking a gift horse in the mouth, shame on you.
So, I checked the email we receieved regarding this, and coming from the Pres. of Applebees, he said veterans would recieve a free meal off of a menu with 5 choices. That sucks. We got jipped!
The quesadilla burger is actually pretty good.
..you had me at "Offer beans and you may as well kick veterans everywhere in the crotch"...
The quesadilla burger is just a hamburger collapsed between tortillas. Resuarant burger + tortillas = meal falling apart and sticky crap all over your hands. It wasn't meant to go together but I gave it a try anyway. Try the bruschetta burger, you'll never go back. ;)
Did you get one of the five items? If so, I would write Applebee's, giving them the email you received and your receipt. If you were supposed to get it for free and they are a decent company they should send you some sort of compensation. Just ask Erika, it is worth writing. She got a ton of free stuff from Outback from writing once and she wasn't expecting anything.
